images Masks and mask making have held a fascination and attraction for Gerri since she began making and collecting them in the mid seventies. Today, Gerri makes masks, which focus on her expressive arts work. Although Gerri’s formal education lies in Theater Arts and Communications fields, she completed course work and holds a certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy. This work utilizes various expressive arts modalities such as painting, sand tray work, mask making, dance therapy and playback theater. Using a wide variety of materials including fabric, paint, natural fibers, wood, metals and found objects, Gerri’s imbues her masks with symbols, images and icons of a universal nature. Their appeal crosses gender and culture. Personal Philosophy: With my mask making, I’m able to express, transform, ritualize and explore my personal and spiritual life journey.
