SPACER
"Intestinal
Snake" 1997
Oil paint on gessoed Masonite.
The sacred snake, skewered and hung up like so much dead
meat. Where did my sense of sacredness go? Where was my
snake in the garden to tempt me to eat and seek
knowledge? I was lost, no thing had meaning to me. I
thought of the meat of so many different animals hung
upon hooks in market in Egypt. I saw the flies, I heard
their buzz. The sacred and the mundane blurred into one. |
"Penis
Knife" 1997
Oil paint on stretched canvas.
This is a hard one to explain. It is a subconscious
painting. I let go of all preconceived ideas, and let my
hand have it's way. I know not what I channeled this
time. It reminds me of the "Split Infinity"
painting, with it's combination penis/knife. This time
though, it hovers above with no sense of threat. In
fact, it seems to give promise of pleasure. This may be
due to the edition of female energy, noted by the
crescent moon on the knife hilt.

"Blurred
Vision" 1997
Oil paint on gessoed Masonite.
This painting is inspired by my own struggles with
psychic vision. An eye ball is surrounded by the four
elements. A spear pierces into the iris. Despite it all,
the eye stays open, seemingly uneffected. Even when the
visions are painful, I cannot stop the seeing. |
"Magic"
1997
Oil paint on stretched canvas.
Though most people assume this is an eyeball, it is
actually a synaptic nerve. The center contains the
nucleus. Fine tendrils snake out and connect to the
spider web. The web reaches out and beyond the canvas.
The nerve is glowing with power, using all that it
touches to reach out to the world.

"Forced
Vision" 2000
Acrylic on gessoed Masonite.
Sometimes our eyes are forced open, and we must bear
witness to the truth around us, as well as the truth
within. I found this process painful. Sometimes I fought
with all my might, wishing for the revelations to stop.
But just like the painting, my eyes were held open, the
process impersonal, mechanized, impossible to stop once
begun.
