"From
the Ashes" 2008
Acrylic paint on gessoed Masonite.
Divorce, a broken promise, the end of so much promise...
As my relationship dies, so too does a piece of myself.
Yet time and again I find the hope to carry on. My heart
battered and broken, my love of life, self, my daughter,
family, friends, it all propels me forward. Like the
proverbial Phoenix depicted here my passion rises once
more. I am altered by my experiences, but ultimately I
am still myself. The void left by my lover's passing is
filled with the pieces of myself that had been lost
along the way. After eight long years, I have picked up
the brush again. Thank you to the man who said
the magic words that reawakened my artist's heart... |

"Girl
Captured" 2002
Photo Manipulation.
My first attempt at artistic photo manipulation. I
joined deviantart.com,
a really wonderful artist community. I saw this kind of
work there, and decided to try my hand at it. I think it
reflects the state of my marriage at the time. I felt
cherished, yet trapped. Loved, yet not in a healthy way. I
was stifled, and so very isolated. |

"Anguish
of the Guardian Angel" 2002
Photo Manipulation.
My second attempt at artistic photo manipulation. As I
was creating this, I started to have a funny story running
through my head. A guardian angel gets distracted, and his
human gets himself into all kinds of trouble. As
punishment, he is chained down, and forced to watch as his
former charge gets himself into deeper and deeper trouble. |

"Manipulation
of Meat" 2002
Photo Manipulation.
A photo manipulation of meat, kind of a comparison of
meat to... well... meat! I was very interested in what
emotions would be invoked by this type of comparison. I
know of few women who cannot relate to the idea of being
seen as meat. The relation to blood and menstruation.
The idea of being valued for this one small part of our
selves.

"I
can still see with my left" 2002
version 1
& 2
Photo Manipulation.
I have always been fascinated by hands. The left hand is
the 'receiving' hand, or hand of intuition, hence the
title. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted out of this
piece, so I have made a few versions.

"Flame
Hands" 2004
Photo Manipulation.
While showing this mechanics of this art form to
someone, I found what I had been looking for all along
(out of this piece). Funny that it so long. I love the
movement and hinted suggestion of fire. My creativity is
starting to flow again. My hands are aflame with
inspiration.
